Earlier this year I received a giftcard to buy (what else?) yarn! After looking around in the webshop I chose for Rico Design Creative Melange Chunky. This yarn has a beautiful color gradient and is nice and soft.
In my head I already what I wanted to make a cardigan for a rainy day on the couch with a big cup of tea. All I needed to do now is think of pattern… A while ago I learned how to crochet a cable with this Traveling Afghan Square. I wanted to use a cable combined with front post double crochet stitches and a moss stitch for the border. Let’s get started!
Rico Design Creative Chunky
This yarn has an absolutely lovely color gradient and is really soft. Because yarn has a thicker thread you can use a large crochet hook and you can finish this baby in no time.
The composition of this yarn is 54% wool and 47% acryllic and is qualified for crochet hook 6/7mm. The length of this yarn is 90 meters. One skein weighs 50 grams.
It is wise to not frog this yarn very often. You can compare this yarn with sliver wool, because the yarn is loosely spun. When you frog often, the thread will get fluffy and you don’t want that.

Explanation alternative double crochet
Turn your work, but do NOT chain 1. In stead you do this: put your hook in the last stitch of the previous row, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the two loops (looks like a single crochet).
Put your hook in between the ‘V’ that you just made, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the first loop, yarn over, pull up a loop and pull through both loops. In case you need more help, click here!
Why an alternative double crochet?
When you use this stitch in stead of two chains and the end of the row, you will get a nice straight stitch. When you use the traditional chain, your border will always have a little bobble on the side. You prevent this while using this alternative double crochet!

Sleeves
Make 2. Use 1 skein for every sleeve.

R3 – R35 Repeat row 2.
Finish your cardigan
Step 1 Get your patch and fold the right corner together, so a ‘point’ appears. Repeat this on the left side.
Step 2 Sew the top and bottom together, but leave a hole of 20 centimeters. This will be the armholes. See below in red what to sew. Make sure that your moss stitch border nicely merge into each other.
Step 3 – Get you sleeves and fold. Use your stitchmarkers to put the edges together. Use more stitch markers and attach the sleeve onto the armhole. Close the sleeves while sewing and attach to the armhole. Repeat this proces on the other side.
Your Cuddle Me Softly Cardigan is finished! Have fun wearing it.
